    I think it would be pretty straightforward to write a different frontend for the maps field type to use Leaflet or similar.

    We ran into this. We decided to create a map using Leaflet.js instead. https://leafletjs.com/ We just created a link for directions that links to a Google Map. Scroll all the way to the bottom: http://ecpworkshop-pa2019.com/
